Motilal Oswal Financial Services’ public issue is scheduled to open on April 23 and close on May 7. The issue has been rated AA/Stable by CRISIL Ratings and India Ratings. At least 75% of the funds raised through this issue will be used for the purpose of meeting working capital requirements and repayment of existing liabilities and the balance amount would be utilised for general corporate purposes.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services shares gained 3.26% after the company said that its board will meet on Friday, 26 April 2024, to consider a proposal for declaration of bonus equity shares. At the same meeting, the company's board will also consider and approve the audited financial results (standalone & consolidated) for the quarter and the year ended on 31 March 2024.

In the corresponding quarter, Motilal Oswal Financial Services posted a net profit of ₹526.1 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing. Revenue from operations jumped 54% to ₹2,312.3 crore against ₹1,501.5 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal. At the operating level, EBITDA jumped 66.4% to ₹1,392.7 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal over ₹837.2 crore in Q1 of FY24. The EBITDA margin stood at 60.2% in the reporting quarter versus 55.8% in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal. EBITDA is earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation. Motilal Oswal Financial Services' net revenue for wealth management grew by 42% YoY to ₹530 crore. Profit after tax (PAT) saw an increase of 69%, reaching ₹177 crore. Total assets under advice surged by 105% over the same period in the previous fiscal to ₹2,65,113 crore. Distribution assets under management (AUM) grew by 42% YoY, standing at ₹26,171 crore as of June 30, 2024, while distribution net sales grew to ₹1,449 crore. The company's cash market share also increased by 186 basis points on year, reaching 8% in Q1 FY25.

Traditional lines of business like broking and investment banking remain susceptible to market volatility. Additionally, significant capital investments in various financial instruments expose profitability and net worth to market fluctuations.


Due to the volatile nature of the underlying assets, the book is exposed to capital market fluctuations, despite maintaining healthy asset quality thus far. 

The capital market business is characterised by intense competition and pricing pressure across segments, exacerbated by the growing dominance of discount brokers. Further, a series of regulatory changes in the last couple of years have increased the compliance cost for all brokers, exerting pressure on margins besides raising the working capital requirement.
