State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) on Wednesday (July 10) announced plans to borrow up to ₹16,000 crore during the financial year 2025-26. This decision was made by the Board of Directors in their meeting held on July 10, 2024. The funds will be raised through various sources, including domestic bonds. These bonds can be secured or unsecured, non-convertible, non-cumulative, redeemable, and may be issued as either taxable or tax-free under private placement, it said.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PowerGrid or PGCIL) on May 22 reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 4,137.21 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2024, down 3.5 percent from Rs 4,288.11 crore a year ago. The Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) also declared a third interim dividend of Rs 2.75 per equity share of Rs 10 each (at 45 percent of the paid-up equity share capital) for the financial year 2023-24. The interim dividend will be paid to the members within 30 days of declaring the company's Annual General Meeting. For Q4, Power Grid Corp may report a revenue of Rs 10,594 crore, down 18 percent year-on-year, according to Bloomberg consensus estimate of five brokerages. The company’s net profit was seen at Rs 4,160 crore, falling 3.7 percent from that a year ago, showed estimates.

The company is exposed to the weak financial profile of its counterparties i.e. the state distribution utilities.

Company is exposed to execution risks for its under-construction projects, the quantum of the same is coming down and remains much smaller compared to the installed capacity base.

The issuer has made timely interest payments.

GoI has also extended its support to P GCIL in the form of guarantees for some of the loans availed by the company which enables the company raise long term funds at competitive rates.

PGCIL has demonstrated consistently high system availability in the last 5 years, ensuring the recovery of annual transmission charges and earning incentive for availability being higher than the normative levels.
