Juniper Green Energy recently finalized two significant Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for hybrid renewable energy projects totaling 480 MW in capacity.
The first agreement, with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), involves a 190 MW hybrid project (140 MW solar and 50 MW wind) set to generate 412 million units (MUs) of electricity annually. It aims to offset 384,067 tonnes of CO2 emissions and provide clean energy to approximately 82,016 households.
Partnering with NTPC Limited, the second project, known as NTPC Hybrid Tranche -1, encompasses 290 MW of hybrid capacity (210 MW solar and 80 MW wind) across Gujarat and Rajasthan. This initiative is projected to produce 633 MUs of electricity annually, contributing to a reduction of 590,810 tonnes in carbon emissions and supplying power to 126,165 households.

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC-REL) has invited online bids for land and power evacuation packages for a 900 MW ISTS-connected solar project In Neemuch region, Madhya Pradesh. NTPC-REL’s  tender document mentioned that the project requires government/private contiguous land of 5 Acres/MW on a freehold/leasehold basis near Neemuch ISTS substation in Madhya Pradesh, the lease period is to be 29 years and 11 months. The document stated, “Government land is to be a maximum of 10% of the total land. The topography survey for land parcels and any cutting / Filling is expected to have 95% compaction as per standard Proctor density test, to maintain an average slope of 10% for Solar Project Land for installation of tracker -based MMS.

NTPC-REL Seeks Bids For 900 MW Project In Madhya Pradesh

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, has emerged as a successful bidder in the e-reverse auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the development of 2000 MW ISTS connected Solar PV Power Projects. The auction also includes the establishment of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) with a total capacity of 1000 MW/4000 MWh. NTPC REL secured 500 MW of solar power capacity at a tariff of Rs. 3.52 per kWh. As per the terms of the tender, the company is required to set up an Energy Storage System (ESS) of 250 MW/1000 MWh along with the contracted solar capacity. NTPC Green Energy is a 'Maharatna' central public sector enterprise with a renewable energy portfolio, including solar and wind power assets.

The weak financial health of many of the state distribution utilities continues to remain a cause of concern for NTPC. This is evidenced by increase in the total receivables – from ₹17,718 crores as on March 31, 2021 to ₹27,342 crore as on March 31, 2022.

The various projects under implementation of NTPC expose it to the project execution/funding-related risks.

NTPC is the largest power generating company of India, constituting around 17.27% of India’s total installed capacity.

The coal-based power stations of the NTPC group continued to be cost-competitive in terms of generation thus maintaining a sizable spread over the national average PLF in FY22 despite lower power demand.

Better operating efficiency and return from new capacities commercialised during FY22 and FY23 led to substantial improvement in the profit before interest, lease rentals, depreciation and taxation and profit after tax in FY22 and FY23.
